Act Now, Change Forever: join us at the mass lobby

On 9 July 2025 we’re joining The Climate Coalition, alongside grassroots groups and organisations from across the UK, to take part in a mass lobby of MPs and we need your help to make it huge.

01 May 2025

Join us and take part in a mass lobby in London, or take part locally, to demand that this government act now, for people, climate and nature. This will be the perfect chance for you to join Friends of the Earth campaigners, supporters and fellow local action group members at the lobby to tell your MP to take action for a bold and fair climate plan.

What's a mass lobby?

A mass lobby is when thousands of people from across the country meet their MPs on the same day to demand urgent political action. It’s one of the most powerful ways to show politicians that climate and nature must be a top priority.

In 2019 Friends of the Earth supporters and local group members, alongside thousands of supporters from other organisations, descended on parliament and demonstrated our power and passion as a grassroots movement for people and planet. This year, we’re doing it again.

Why now?

The 2024 election saw a historic turnover of MPs, with over 300 new MPs elected . One year on from the election, we’re coming together to ensure decision makers Act Now, Change Forever.

The lobby takes place roughly 100 days before the government is expected to publish its new climate plan. We'll therefore be using this opportunity to demand a bold and fair climate plan.

Can’t make it to London? You can still take part

We’ll be joining the mass lobby in London, but if you can’t join us there you can still take part remotely.

As a group, organise a meeting with your MP following on from the 9 July. We recommend doing this on Friday 11 July when MPs are likely to be back in their constituencies, or shortly after the mass lobby to make the most of the momentum.  Follow our guide for meeting your MP and asking them to take action.

You can also take part in the day by sharing a post on social media and engaging the local media. Templates will be available early June.

Come along to our training on 10 June to find out more about how to take part locally.

What to expect on the day

On the day of the lobby, MPs and constituents will meet at a time and place pre-arranged by  The Climate Coalition. All MP meetings will be taking place inside, in venues close to parliament. You’ll join other people from your constituency and speak to your MP together.

At midday, everyone who is part of the mass lobby will take part in a collective stunt to grab media attention. Friends of the Earth group members will gather beforehand so we can take part in the stunt together.

Throughout the day, we’ll have a Friends of the Earth hub nearby where you can drop in for a chat, connect with other group members, and enjoy a well-earned cup of tea. Friends of the Earth campaigners will be on hand to chat about the campaign and support you ahead of your MP meetings.

This day is about showing our collective power and connecting as a movement. You’ll leave the day feeling energised and ready to follow up with your MP.

We want to make sure as many people as possible hear about this mass lobby  and decision makers feel the pressure to act, so we’ll showcase our participation on social media and in the local media.

For more all the details about what to expect on the day take a look at our FAQs.

How can I take part in the London mass lobby?

Before the day

  • Sign your group up to take part via Friends of the Earth’s form.
  • Each individual member of your group attending will also need sign up via The Climate Coalition’s form (link available on 6 May). This is so they have a clear register for MP meetings. Please note you won’t be able to join an MP meeting if you haven’t individually registered.
  • Engage with your community by inviting them to attend, arranging travel together, and hosting a banner making activity. Use our community message board to gather local messages of support and present these to your MP on the day. Read more about engaging your community in this guide.
  • Tell your MP that you're coming. All MPs will receive an invitation to the lobby from The Climate Coalition. But they're much more likely to turn up if they know lots of their constituents will be there. Use this template to tell them you're coming.

On the day

  • Drop by the Friends of the Earth hub space. Open all day near Westminster (address coming soon). Come for a cup of tea, campaign chat, and to meet others.
  • Join the 12pm collective action  with other Friends of the Earth members. We’ll gather beforehand outside our drop in space (near Westminster). More details on this to follow.
  • Meet your MP, ask them to support a bold and fair climate plan, and don’t forget to take a photo with them.
  • Enjoy the day – you’re part of something big!

After the mass lobby

  • Share your photos on social media using our template posts (available in June).
  • Edit and send off a press release (available in June), including any commitments you secured from your MP.
  • Let us know how it went by filling in a short form (available in July).
  • Follow up with your MP and check if they’ve taken action as a result of your meeting.

Accessibility and support

We want everyone to feel able to take part.

We have a small fund available to cover travel costs for those who need it most. You can apply to have travel costs covered via this form. Please share it with your group and encourage those who wouldn’t otherwise be able to come to apply as soon as possible – the fund is limited and will be distributed on a first come, first served basis. If you have any questions, email us.

Venues will be wheelchair accessible, and you can let The Climate Coalition know your access needs when you sign up. Please get in contact with us if there is extra support we can provide to enable you to participate.

What are we asking of MPs?

When you meet with your MP there may be lots of other constituents there representing other organisations. This is a great opportunity to chat and build relationships with them.

Everyone participating in the mass lobby is there to ensure your MP takes urgent action on climate and nature. They might have different requests for your MP that complement our demand for a bold and fair climate plan. But with limited time to speak to your MP, you’ll need to make sure your message is clear and succinct.

We’re calling on MPs to support a bold and fair climate plan that delivers on the UK’s climate promises and prioritises justice and fairness. We’re creating a tailored MP briefing you can use to engage your MP that includes local constituency data. You can access this from the 25 May.

Once you’ve spoken to your MP and given them the local briefing you can ask your MP to:

  • Write to Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves, backing a bold and fair climate plan.
  • Show public support, for example through social media or in parliament.

If your MP is hearing about the campaign for the first time, they may want to take time to read the MP briefing. Simply giving them the briefing and letting them know you’ll follow up to arrange a local meeting to discuss the campaign further would be great.

Read our guide on how to speak to your MP about this campaign for more details.

Logistics and FAQs

Meetings will be held in indoor venues near Westminster, booked by The Climate Coalition with appropriate security in place.

The schedule will depend on where you're travelling from. The closer to London, the earlier your meeting is likely to be.

The Climate Coalition will be in touch to confirm your MP meeting time and venue.

We’d love to see folks in Friends of the Earth T-shirts. You can order one from our shop. Comfort is key, and you might be on your feet for a while.

  • Messages you’ve collected on your community message board. Not sure what this is all about? Learn more on this in our guide on engaging your community.
  • Reusable water bottle and snacks.
  • A phone/camera for photos with your MP.
  • Sunscreen or a waterproof – be prepared for the weather.

We’ll have a dedicated Friends of the Earth hub open throughout the day. Come by for:

  • Snacks and a sit-down.
  • A friendly chat with staff.
  • Support and advice if it’s your first time meeting your MP.

We'll confirm the location of the venue closer to the date.

That’s great! This is a chance to reinforce your message, share new data, and build on your existing relationship. The more MPs show public support for the campaign the better, so you can ask your MP to take further action by:

  1. Writing to Labour’s leadership team. Ask them to contact Keir Starmer, Rachel Reeves, Ed Miliband, Heidi Alexander and Steve Reed. We have a template letter (coming soon) you can share when you follow up.
  2. Tabling a written parliamentary question. This helps raise the profile of the climate plan in parliament. If they’re open to this, they can email us for support drafting it.
  3. Speaking in a climate debate or parliamentary session. This is one of the most powerful ways to show leadership and back the campaign publicly.

Publicly backing the campaign. If your MP prefers not to contact ministers directly, they can still support in other ways, like:

  • Sharing a supportive social media post (we can provide a draft)
  • Offering a quote for a press release
  • Writing a piece in your local newspaper

If you’d like to think of a tailored request for your MP, get in touch and we can work with you on that. Drop us an email.
