Get ahead of the game with your planning by using our campaigning calendar. Here you can find out when key actions, moments and themes are taking place and access resources to help you kick-off your campaigns.

09 Jul 2024

2024 is a big year for the environmental justice movement. Here's some key dates for your diary for campaigns that our network is involved in locally. We’ve included resources to get you started, as well as objectives to help focus your campaigning.

Please note: this calendar isn't exhaustive and we'll be reviewing this information and adding in new "moments" and resources to reflect what's happening in the world. This is so your campaigns can stay reactive and relevant. Watch this space!

May – August 2024

To kick-start summer we'll be launching our Right to a Healthy Environment campaign, using water pollution as a way of introducing the topic. Now that the General Election is over, one of our main focuses is winning support from our MPs.

Winning support from MPs

Campaigning period: now – October 2024

Now that the general election is over and MPs are taking office, it’s the best time to secure meetings with them. Prepare a welcome gift of a decorated plant pot and set up a meeting with your new MP to discuss your key campaign demands.

Main objective: secure commitments from MPs on our key campaign demands, and build long term relationships so MPs see our network as a key stakeholder when it comes to action on climate and nature.

Heat Strike

Campaigning period: July 2024

In 2022 the UK passed 40°C for the first time in recorded history, and it’s not getting any cooler. Unbearable heat waves are going to keep getting worse. But the government doesn’t have a plan to protect lives.

On the hottest day of the year people all over the UK will join the Heat Strike. Sign up to get your Heat Strike resource pack.

Main objective: people across the UK come together to put pressure on the government to put in place a plan to protect lives from extreme heat.

Sh*t Beach: water pollution and the Environmental Rights Act

Campaigning period: now – September 2024

Campaigning period: 14 May and all summer

Friends of the Earth is launching a spoof video to highlight the issue of water pollution. The tongue-in-cheek approach will be the start of a conversation and a series of campaign actions related to pollution.

Main objective: to build support for a new Environmental Rights Act (ERA) to enshrine our right to a healthy environment in law.

Later in 2024

As we come towards the end of the year, we’ll reflect on what we’ve achieved together as a movement and come together for mobilisations and events around COP29 so that we enter 2025 a stronger, more connected and more inspired movement.
