On behalf of your constituents, local community groups and businesses, we’re asking you to sign the Good Business Matters pledge in support of a new Business, Human Rights and Environment Act. Over 70 MPs and Peers have already signed, and the need for the law is also supported by businesses, investors, civil society organisations and 150, 000 UK citizens.
Why this is an important moment for the campaign
From deforestation and land grabs to forced labour and poor working conditions, UK companies’ supply chains are linked to serious damage to the environment, communities and workers around the world. The government has acknowledged concerns over such impacts, and the Department for Business and Trade is carrying out a review of Responsible Business Conduct – a key opportunity to bring forward legislation to address these harms.
Wider support for the campaign
This campaign is part of the wider movement, coordinated by the Corporate Justice Coalition. There is growing support for a law to address human rights abuses and environmental harms in private and public sector supply chains:
- Over 70 MPs and Peers have signed the Good Business Matters pledge
- Businesses and investors : 50 high profile UK businesses, including the John Lewis Partnership, Aviva and Sainsbury’s and Investors with £4.5 trillion in assets under management
- 49 Civil society organisations
- YouGov polling shows that 4 in 5 Britons want a new law to end exploitation of workers and environmental destruction in supply chains.
- A petition of almost 145,000 signatures handed to government in June 2025
